Although the Ravens just signed Rolando McClain, I still expect them to take two, maybe even three linebackers in this year’s NFL draft. The 6’4″ 265 former team captain from ‘Bama will get a chance to start, and at 23 years old, he’s still younger than a few players in this year’s draft. Having him signed and on the roster certainly does take the pressure of reaching for a need pick early in the draft. Here are a bunch of names to consider:
Kevin Minter, LSU – Had one big year at LSU. Don’t think he’s worth taking at 32
Alec Ogletree – most talented LB in the draft. HUge risk at 32, but after further review…I’d take him
Manti Te’o – still liked him after the Catfishing incident. He lost me when he blamed stress for his poor combine performance. Leaders don’t make excuses. Period.
Arthur Brown – I absolutely love him, even at 32. I don’t think taking him is too high. Much safer pick than Ogletree
Sio Moore – I like this guy. Solid hybrid type of a linebacker. Would consider him late in the third or early fourth round. He makes plays, and he’s good in space.
Kiko Alonso – he can play inside or out. The DUI is alarming. I have him rated at the bottom of the third round. That’s where his value lies, and I believe he’s worth the risk that late in the draft, but no higher
Sean Porter – projects more as a weakside 4-3 LB, so I don’t have a real high interest in him
Khaseem Greene – he’s a late second to early third round pick. Not a super great athlete but a thumper. He used to be safety. Very fiery guy and great competitor.
Kevin Reddick from NC – to me he’s a poor man’s Kevin Minter, and frankly I don’t see much difference between the two. He projects late third to early fourth rounds.
Nico Johnson, Alabama – physical two down LB. He’s a run stopper, a real thumper.
Jon Bostic, Florida – solid ILB, who’s faster than Johnson and better at covering TEs and backs. Has a chance to be a 3 down LB, and should go somewhere in the 3rd or 4th round
Brandon Jenkins, FSU – was a possible first round draft pick until he suffered a Lisfranc injury (basically a foot injury that takes a year or more to recover from). He’s an OLB/Rush end, and could be a steal depending on where he is taken in the draft. With the number of picks that we have available, he’s definitely worth taking a gamble on.
Keith Pough, Howard – This thumper is no longer under the radar. Rangy player who will be picked in the middle rounds
Nathan Williams, Ohio State – High motor guy who plays like a Raven!!!
Jordan Campbell, New Mexico – this guy is a wreking machine! Roll the tape and you’ll think you’re watching Ray Lewis!
